What Claude can do
Claude, working in your QuickBooks.
Once LedgerLou is added, Claude picks the right tool for what you ask. You don’t name tools or write queries.
Look anything up
Find invoices, bills, expenses, customers and vendors with a QuickBooks query, or read one record in full.
Run reports
Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, Trial Balance, General Ledger, and aged receivables and payables.
Make the changes you allow
With a read-and-write key: create and edit transactions, void or delete them, and email invoices and estimates.
Files and PDFs
Attach a receipt to an expense, or fetch the PDF of an invoice to save or send on.
Every company, one key
A key reaches every QuickBooks company connected to your LedgerLou account.
The whole accounting API
Fourteen tools cover the QuickBooks Online accounting API, not a few canned actions.
Every tool, and what each one does, is in the tool reference.
Set up
One key, one command in Claude Code.
- 1
Create your account and connect QuickBooks
Create a free account, choose Connect QuickBooks and sign in with Intuit. Add each company you want Claude to reach.
- 2
Create a key
In LedgerLou, open Settings → API keys. Choose read-only or read-and-write, then copy the key. We show it once.
- 3
Add LedgerLou to Claude Code
Run this in a terminal, with your key in place of
YOUR_KEY:Terminalclaude mcp add --scope user --transport http ledgerlou https://app.ledgerlou.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY"
--scope usermakes LedgerLou available in every project, not only the folder you ran it in. - 4
Ask Claude
Start a new Claude Code session and ask it to list my QuickBooks companies. A session that was already open won’t see LedgerLou until you start a new one.
Try asking
Ask the way you’d ask a colleague.

In your control
You decide what Claude can touch.
Read-only or read-and-write
You choose per key. A read-only key can look things up and run reports but can't change anything.
Revoke at any time
Revoke a key under Settings → API keys and it stops working at once.
A record of every write
Each change made through Connect is recorded, whether it succeeded or failed.
Questions
QuickBooks and Claude, answered.
Does it work in the Claude desktop and web apps?
Not yet. Today LedgerLou connects to Claude Code with one command. One-click connection from the Claude apps is on the way.
Can Claude change my books?
Only with a read-and-write key. A read-only key lets Claude look things up and run reports but can't change anything. Claude Code also asks before it runs a tool, unless you've told it to always allow that tool.
Does Claude go through Lou's approval gate?
No. A change posts when Claude makes it, so Claude Code's permission prompt is the checkpoint. Every write made through Connect is recorded, and you can revoke a key at any time. If you want each change previewed and approved first, ask Lou inside LedgerLou.
Can Claude work across several QuickBooks companies?
Yes. One key reaches every QuickBooks company connected to your LedgerLou account. Claude lists them and works in the one you name.
Do I need an Intuit developer account?
No. You connect QuickBooks to LedgerLou through Intuit's own sign-in, and LedgerLou handles the QuickBooks API for you.

Want every change previewed first?
“Ask me inside LedgerLou. I work in the same QuickBooks companies, draft each change for you to review, and post nothing until you approve it.”
